Amir, a Former student at Aligarh Muslim University asked Salman Khurshid his opinion on 1984 riots & Babri Masjid demolition, to which he replied "Congress ke daman par musalmanon ke khoon ke dhabe hain".

Khurshid also saidthat he hoped Amir would also meet students in future who could ask him similar questions without fear.

Reacting to this, Salman Khurshid said he said what he did and that he would continue to say it. He further added that he made the statement as a human being.

Congress Spokesperson PL Punia  however disagreed with the statement of Salman Khurshid and said that  Congress always worked towards building an egalitarian society by carrying all sections of people together especially religious & ethnic minorities.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra took full advantage of the situation and issued the following statement:

" Salman Khurshid has revealed the truth behind Rahul Gandhi’s 'Save the Constitution' campaign. He has admitted that Congress’ hand is stained with blood. It is not only stained with the blood of Muslims but also of Sikhs who were killed in 1984 ".
