Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on Friday, gave the Congress party, the last chance to form an alliance with the former. The announcement came on the backdrop of an exchange between party chief Arvind Kejriwal and Congress president Rahul Gandhi which hinted that the talks of an alliance between the two parties had failed.
"Today also we have again given a chance, people of the country want that. We have given Congress the last chance to think it over, let's see what happens," AAP leader Gopal Rai was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Earlier, the party postponed the filing of nominations of candidates for three Lok Sabha constituencies to April 22. The move was being interpreted as an indication of the party's intent to give Congress more time to consider an alliance with AAP.
While the Congress had offered four of seven Parliamentary seats to AAP, the latter has been seeking an alliance beyond Delhi into the states of Haryana and Chandigarh.
"An alliance between the Congress & AAP in Delhi would mean the rout of the BJP. The Congress is willing to give up 4 Delhi seats to the AAP to ensure this... But, Mr Kejriwal has done yet another U-turn! Our doors are still open, but the clock is running out," Gandhi has tweeted on April 15.
"Which U-turn? The conversation was still ongoing, your tweet shows that the alliance is not just your wish. I am sorry you are indulging in making big statements. Today, it is important to save the country from the threat of the Modi-Shah threat. Unfortunately, you are helping Modi by dividing the anti-Modi vote in UP and other states too," Kejriwal said in response to Gandhi's tweet.
