People should have chosen Amitabh Bachchan as their Prime Minister instead of Narendra Modi: Priyanka Gandhi

People should have chosen Amitabh Bachchan as their Prime Minister instead of Narendra Modi: Priyanka Gandhi

Calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi “best actor in the world”, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Friday said that people of the country should have elected Amitabh Bachchan as their PM instead of Narendra Modi.

Addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur, Gandhi said, “Ab aap samajh lijiye ke apne duniye ke sabse bade abhineta ko apna PM bana diya hai, is se accha toh aap Amitabh Bachchan ko hi bana dete, karna toh kisi ne kuch nahi tha aapke liye. (You should understand that you have elected world’s best actor as your Prime Minister, you should have elected Amitabh Bachchan as your Prime Minister. No one would anyway do anything for you.)"

The Congress general secretary from Uttar Pradesh (East) earlier in the day held a roadshow for party candidate Lalitesh Tripathi, ahead of the last phase of Lok Sabha elections, in Mirzapur, on May 19.

Gandhi has lately been launching several attacks on Prime Minister Modi in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

On Wednesday, the Congress leader, while addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Salempur said that PM Modi's politics does not consist of development but of "publicity" and "lies".

"A leader should always say the truth to people. Prime Minister Modi is doing politics based on lies and publicity. There is no development. Our Prime Minister is very good with publicity,” news agency ANI quoted her as saying.

Earlier, she had said that PM Modi did not have even five minutes in his tenure to solve problems faced by the poor in his constituency, Varanasi.

"Normally, political leaders should talk about real issues during the campaign, like what are your problems, how it can be solved, what they will do in next five years, what they did in last five years," Gandhi said, news agency PTI reported.

"But in the last five years, a strange silsila (series) is on. Only campaigning is going on, no actual work was done," she added.
