After a humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections despite forging an alliance with former rival, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has said that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav didn’t even call her after their loss in the polls.

Speaking at party’s national executive meeting in Lucknow on Sunday, Mayawati said that Yadav neither visited nor called her over the phone after the results of the Lok Sabha elections were declared.

The BSP chief also alleged that the Samajwadi Party president had asked her not to give tickets to the Muslim candidates as it may lead to polarisation during elections.

The BSP and the SP that formed a pre-poll alliance with an aim to rout the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in general elections suffered a crushing defeat as it managed to win only 15 out of total 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.

The SP had bagged five seats, while the BSP got 10, taking the 'mahagathbandhan' tally to 15. The BJP and its ally Apna Dal had won 64 of the total 80 Parliamentary seats in the state.

Earlier, the BSP chief had said that Yadav votes were not transferred to her party during the Lok Sabha polls. “In the results of Lok Sabha elections in UP, base vote of Samajwadi Party, the 'Yadav' community, didn't support the party. Even strong contenders of the SP were defeated," she said.

Days after the election debacle, Mayawati announced that the BSP would go solo in the upcoming Assembly bypolls in Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party chief also said that his party would contest the bypolls alone on all 11 seats.

Earlier, Samajwadi Party chief had said that the alliance with Mayawati’s BSP was a "scientific experiment" that did not work.

"I studied engineering in Mysore. As a science student, I know that all experiments do not always succeed. But still we give it a trial and learn what is lacking," said Yadav while talking to reporters here, news agency ANI reported.

The SP chief, however, said he would continue to respect the BSP chief. "In the very first press conference, I had said that I respect Mayawati ji and even today I stand by that statement," he added.
