CBI raids Amnesty International India office in Bengaluru over 'violation of FCRA norms'

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday raided the headquarters of non-profit organisation Amnesty International India in Bengaluru on charges of ‘violation of FCRA norms’.

The organisation issued a statement and alleged “harrassment for speaking out against human rights violations in India”, adding that they stand in compliance with Indian and international law.

“Over the past year, a pattern of harassment has emerged every time Amnesty India stands up and speaks out against human rights violations in India. We stand in full compliance with Indian and international law. Our work in India, as elsewhere, is to uphold and fight for universal human rights. These are the same values that are enshrined in the Indian Constitution and flow from a long and rich Indian tradition of pluralism, tolerance and dissent,” Amnesty India said in the statement, according to news agency ANI.

The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 is an act that has been formulated to regulate the transperancy in the acceptance and utilisation of foreign contributions.
