NIA searches houses of suspects in Kerala's Kozhikode Maoists case

NIA searches houses of suspects in Kerala's Kozhikode Maoists case

New Delhi/Kozhikode,  Four days after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a charge sheet against three persons in the Kozhikode Maoists case, the agency on Friday searched houses of two other suspects in connection with the case, officials said.

An NIA spokesperson in Delhi said: "The agency conducted searches in the houses of Vijith Vijayan and Abhilash, both associated with proscribed terrorist organization CPI (Maoist) at Kozhikode."

He said the anti-terror agency's investigation had revealed that Vijayan and Abhilash were instrumental in recruiting accused Allan Shuaib and Thwaha Fasal as members of the banned outfit.

He said that they are being questioned.

The official said that the agency seized eight mobile phones, seven SIM cards, two memory cards, one laptop, seven pen drives and one voice recorder, nine books and numerous documents supporting left-wing extremism and Communist Party of India (Maoist).

The case was originally registered on November 1 last year in Kozhikode city against the three after police allegedly seized documents and propaganda material supporting CPI (Maoist) from Shuaib and Fasal while they were meeting with one C.P. Usman who escaped from the spot.

The official said that during investigation it was established that Shuaib, Fasal and Usman are members of the proscribed terrorist organization and that they had held secret meetings as well as committed certain unlawful activities for furthering the cause of CPI (Maoist) in Kerala.

On April 27, the NIA filed the charge sheet against arrested accused Shuaib and Fasal and absconding accused Usman under the IPC, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a Special NIA court in Ernakulum.
