If you thought that data wars in India’s telecom market were over, think again. Jio has now come out with two new plans to take on Airtel and Vodafone. The second plan is Rs 299 plan, which gives users 2GB 4G data daily for the same duration.

With Jio acquiring millions of consumers in record time, companies like Airtel and Vodafone have been forced to respond. Although fighting hard for their turf, neither Vodafone nor Airtel have shied away from the fight. They too have come with attractive monthly plans for their subscribers and have more or less been able to offer plans that are very similar to what Jio provides.

Just last month Airtel announced the Rs 198 plan for its prepaid users, which gave consumers 1GB 4G data per day for 28 days. This plan was launched to counter a similar Rs 199 plan that Vodafone had launched earlier. Now Jio joins the fight at the Rs 199 price point.

But there is one difference. It seems that the Vodafone and Airtel plans are available only in select circles. For example, the Rs 198 plan offering Airtel users 1GB data was first seen in Telangana circle. In contrast, the Jio Happy New Year 2018 offer are going to be available to all users, irrespective of where they are located in India.

Although as noted earlier, the new Jio plans do seem restricted to only Prime members. The Prime membership of Jio costs another Rs 99 per year, which is an extra – albeit a very small – expense.
