Fidayeen attack on BSF camp: 3 militants killed, while three jawans injured

Militants today carried out a ‘fidayeen’ (suicide) attack on a BSF camp located near near the high-security Srinagar International airport here Srinagar International airport leaving three jawans injured, police said.

Two militants have been gunned down, reported by a news agency.

Airport operations have been suspended as the security forces were fighting militants who had breached into the 182 battalion headquarters of BSF located in Gogoland, police said. This battalion is entrusted with security of runway of the Srinagar airport.

The area also houses training centres of the BSF and CRPF.

No flights will be operated until security clearance is received. The airport is now under CRPF security, reported ANI.

Besides the only civilian airport, the technical airport used by Armed Forces and VIPs is also in the vicinity. Adjacent to the camp is the old Srinagar air field which is been run by the Indian Air force.

“Three personnel have been injured. Firing is ongoing,” BSF officials said.

The ultras targeted the administrative block of BSF’s 182nd battalion, located just outside the main gate of the airport, a police official said.  He said the attack took place at 4.00 am and exchange of firing was going on between the militants and security forces.

The terrorists are holed up inside the building campus of the 182nd Battalion camp, according to BSF officials.
