Actor Sridevi passes away in Dubai due to cardiac arrest

In a major jolt to Bollywood industry, actress Sridevi passed away on Sunday.

The 54-year-old actress reportedly died of cardiac arrest in Dubai, according to filmfare.

The actress was in Dubai along with her husband Boney Kapoor and her younger daughter Khushi to attend the wedding ceremony of Mohit Marwah.

Sridevi's brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor had confirmed the news about her demise to indianexpress.com.   

According to the reports, Sanjay Kapoor said,"Yes, it is true that Sridevi passed away. I just landed here, I was in Dubai and now I am flying back to Dubai. It happened roughly around 11.00-11.30. I don’t know more details yet."

The actor born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayappan in 1963 in Tamil Nadu's Sivakasi. She made her debut at the age of four in Thunaivan as a child artist.

Later she went on to become one the leading heroines in the country. Having acted in more than 200 films, she not only conquered the south Indian film industry but also went on to stamp a mark in Bollywood.

Sridevi was known for her iconic roles in Hindi movies like Chandni, Lamhe, Mr India, Chaalbaaz, Nagina, Sadma, and many more.

In 2012, Sridevi returned to films after a 15-year-long hiatus with Gauri Shinde's movie English Vinglish.

The actress was last seen in Bollywood movie ‘Mom’ in 2017, 

Her daughter Janhvi is set to make her Bollywood debut this year with Karan Johar’s directorial Dhadak.

The actress was last seen in movie Mom.

Celebrities from across the film industry took to Twitter and expressed their grief at the sudden demise of the veteran actress.
