PM Narendra Modi’s ‘bail-gaadi’ jibe: People have rejected Congress, expressed faith in BJP governments

PM Narendra Modi’s ‘bail-gaadi’ jibe: People have rejected Congress, expressed faith in BJP governments

Hitting out at the Congress during a speech in Jaipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that the previous government in Rajasthan had neither the inclination nor the intention to develop the state. He said people had rejected the Congress, and shown faith in BJP governments everywhere. Modi, who was in the Rajasthan capital Jaipur, addressed thousands of beneficiaries of central and state government schemes here. Taking a swipe at the Congress, he described it as a “bail-gaadi”, saying that many leaders of the main opposition party "were out on bail".

As opposed to the Congress, the BJP was moving ahead in the spirit of “new India” and a “new Rajasthan” was integral to this vision for the country, the prime minister said. Modi's visit to Rajasthan com

es ahead of the assembly elections that are scheduled later this year. Since the past four years, Vasundhara Raje's BJP government in Rajasthan and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre "have come together for the benefit of the Rajasthan", he said.

He said he was here to inaugurate projects worth Rs 2,100 crore in several cities of the state. “These projects will improve everything from the traffic situation to sewage management in these urban centres.”

Taking a jibe at the previous Congress government, he said: “I hope you haven’t forgotten the state of Rajasthan four years ago.”

“The BJP governments at both the Centre and the state have a single-point agenda – development, development, development,” he said, adding that his focus was on the upliftment of farmers and backward sections of society. He said his government’s decision to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of several summer crops would benefit crores of farmers across India, and farmers in Rajasthan would also get better prices for their produce.

He said the few government officials who were still not on the same page as the state when it comes to speedy implementation of government schemes in Rajasthan were "under pressure" to mend their ways.

Praising the state of Rajasthan for its historical contribution to the country, Modi said: "Whether it’s agriculture or protecting India from its enemies, Rajasthan has been inspiring India since centuries."
