‘Hindu Taliban’ destroyed Babri Masjid, no right to claim site now: Sunni Waqf Board tells Supreme Court

‘Hindu Taliban’ destroyed Babri Masjid, no right to claim site now: Sunni Waqf Board tells Supreme Court

Sunni Waqf Board claimed in the Supreme Court that Babri Masjid was destroyed by the "Hindu Taliban" just like the demolition of the Buddha statue by the Taliban at Bamiyan in Afghanistan. "You cannot argue that this (demolition of mosque) was by some miscreants. What had happened in 1992? The Bamiyan statue was destroyed by the Taliban and this mosque was destroyed by Hindu Taliban. It cannot be done. It should not have been done. No one can do this,” senior advocate Rajeev Dhawan said.

Appearing for the legal heirs of M Siddiq, senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan told a bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer, “No law or the Constitution allows destruction of religious structures of any faith.”

His comments came after the Shia board told the bench that it was ready to donate one-third of the disputed land, which the Allahabad High Court had given to the Muslims, to the Hindu group for promoting "peace, harmony, unity and integrity" in this great country.

The counsel for the Shia Central Waqf Board said they were the claimants of the Muslim share of land at the disputed Ayodhya site, as the Babri Masjid was built by Mir Baki, a Shia Muslim, PTI reported.

Attacking the litigant for his ‘Hindu Taliban’ comment, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Saturday stated that the litigant who argued in the Supreme Court that the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was demolished by 'Hindu Taliban' was uncultured and a hater of Hindus.

Speaking to ANI, Swamy said, "The person who is arguing today, he is a person who is a hater of Hindus; he was brought up by English money in London; he foams in the mouth, and you can say he is totally uncultured."
