T M Krishna to get Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration

Renowned Carnatic musician T M Krishna will be getting the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration for 2015-2016, reports a news agency.

T M Krishna had earlier won the Magsaysay award for bringing ‘social inclusiveness in culture’.

A renowned artist known for his innovative take on music, T M Krishna also speaks and writes about social issues.

Earlier this year, T M Krishna released a song called Chennai Poromboke Paadal, a Carnatic song written in Chennai dialect, as part of a campaign to raise awareness about encroachment on Chennai’s Ennore Creek. He is also one of the main organisers of the Urur-Olcott Kuppam festival, an event where several art forms, be it classical or folk, are represented on one platform.
