Demolish Delhi’s Jama Masjid, hang me if idols not found: Sakshi Maharaj sparks fresh row

The BJP lawmaker Sakshi Maharaj who is known for making controversial statements on Friday sparked a fresh row as he called for the demolition of Delhi's Jama Masjid.

Sakshi Maharaj's statement comes amid the ongoing row over the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

"Hang me if idols are not found below the staircase of Jama Masjid," said Sakshi Maharaj, adding that he stands by his statement.

"When I came to politics, I made the first statement in Mathura. Leave Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi aside and demolish Delhi's Jama Masjid. If idols are now found below the staircase then I should be hanged (Rajneeti mein jab aaya to pehla mera statement tha Mathura mein, Ayodhya Mathura Kashi ko chhodo Dilli ki Jama Masjid todo, agar seedhion mein murtiyaan na nikle to mujhe faansi pe latka dena)," Maharaj said in Unnao.

The MP also said that he expects the government to bring a law for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya just like Somnath Temple before the 2019 Lok Sabha election. However, BJP president Amit Shah has clarified that that construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya remains BJP's priority but the Centre will not bring an ordinance, since the matter is in the court.

Earlier, the Unnao MP sparked a row saying that the 'vulgar acts' by couples in parks and cars lead to rape.

Maharaj had also defended Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh after he was convicted for raping his female followers at a Panchkula court on August 25.

Two years ago, Sakshi Maharaj sparked scandal when he said that 'Hindu women to have at least four children.'

Though the BJP distanced itself from the leader, defiant Sakshi Maharaj he had said that, “hang me, if I have said something wrong.”
