While addressing a rally in Karachi on Sunday, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan slammed the idea of Army being the reason behind his party's popularity, as per a report by Dawn. He addressed a massive rally at Karachi's Bagh-e-Jinnah, three days ahead of Pakistan elections 2018.
He referred the claim as a “very big conspiracy” against his party, PTI. Before that, he also heaped praise on the achievement of his government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the sorry state of the economic situation in the country. He slammed the Indian media and other parties who accused him of having support from the Army.
"The Indian media and the parties who are no rigging experts by any means have begun to talk up a storm on the subject. They are saying that the army is rigging the elections,” he was quoted as saying by Dawn.
"They are saying that the Tehreek-i-Insaf is rising in popularity due to the army's favour. Tell me this, have you all been called by the army here today?" Imran Khan said further while addressing the crowd. He also asked if all opinion polls were rigged too. "Are all the opinion polls which show our party's success also [engineered] by the army?" the PTI chief was quoted as saying.
He also reminded the crowd that he has criticised the armed forces before. "I have called out the army on several occasions. When I said they should not be sent to Waziristan I was labelled 'Taliban Khan',” he was quoted as saying.
This comes after speculations about the meddling by Pakistani Army in the upcoming elections. The news of the Military deploying about 3,90,000 army officials at polling booths across the country on polling day fueled the doubts further.
