
A total of 272 National Assembly went to vote on Wednesday. The National Assembly has a total of 342 seats and of these, 60 are reserved for women and 10 for minorities. Of the 272 unreserved seats, Punjab has 141, Sindh has 61, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has 39 and Balochistan has 16. Besides, two territories of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with 12 seats and Islamabad Capital Territory with three seats are also there.
The three main political parties in the contest are Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). While PML-N is dominant in Punjab, PPP has a stronghold in Sindh and PTI is reported to leading in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as per latest opinion polls and surveys.
The surveys and polls suggested a tight race between the PTI and PML-N nationwide, but Imran Khan's party appears to have done better than expected.
